Dash Express Software Update 2.1.0.1984 Available

Written by Mike on June 30, 2008 – 3:46 pm - 52 views

The first software update for Dash Express is now available.  You will receive a message notifying you of the update while you’re driving around town, but the update must be completed in a wi-fi area, however.

Dash states the update contains hundreds of modifications.  I only had time to take a quick look through some of the menus and noticed a “set MyRoute mode”  button and  “service status” button, which weren’t there previously.  After a brief check of the Dash site… the MyRoute “learns” how you drive from location to location and picks a custom route based on your driving history.  Sounds interesting and I will be eager to see how this works!  Check it out below:

Search Along Route” to find anything you want along your route of travel.

Other listed improvement include:  ”FasterFind” to decrease time need to lock onto a GPS signal.  Also, there is a 50% increase in map redraws….nice!

For full details check the Dash Blog.

Some Tuesday Nuggets for YOU

Written by Mike on June 24, 2008 – 6:36 pm - 60 views

A good read from the Houston Chronicle in two parts on the Dash Express.  Take a look here for part one.  Here’s part deux.  He seems to have experienced some local routing issues, but I have never experienced any quirky routes cause by traffic conditions.

For example, my short drive to work involves going up Waugh Drive to Memorial, then into downtown and to the Mighty Houston Chronicle. It’s quick, there are a minimal number of stoplights and traffic is relatively light. It’s the route Google Maps recommends. But the Dash Express keeps wanting me to cut over to Montrose, then take the much-slower Allen Parkway, which puts into downtown south of my destination. I then must come up stoplight-dotted Louisiana or Travis streets.

Worth a read.

Dash Vids Dept: A good video about the Dash from Somewhatfrank.com.   Chris Butler from Dash explains some of the features and apps available on the Dash Express.  The video is from a developers conference, and you can watch it here.

Dash Express only $299 at Amazon!

Are You Happy Dept: From the always good gpsreview.net …Survey information concerning Dash user satisfaction. As a Dash user– are you happy??  See if you are, here!

That’s it for today, kids!

Hasta la Bye-bye!

Its Gettin’ “Hot in Herre” or I Rule (Just a little.)

Written by Mike on June 12, 2008 – 12:47 pm - 50 views

WARNING: Low Content

As Nelly states its “gettin hot in herre,” so with this crushing weather in the East you should be in your pool, not on your computer!  Get out!  Do something to cool down, already.  I don’t even feel like writing anything. I just want another iced tea

A Man spends a week with a Dash and comes away pretty pleased, here.

Of course Dash pops up on a lot of Father’s Day gift lists (and actually I think any Dad would be pretty happy with one.)  You can find these corny lists all over, but I’ll point you to one on Yahoo here.

final-table1And for those of you who really care– Yes, I did haul my allergy suffering butt to The Taj least week for the nightly No Limit Tournament… and won!  Shows that heavy doses of allergy medication have their advantages.

Stay cool!

Argh… Dead Again.

Written by Mike on May 22, 2008 – 6:42 pm - 83 views

Is it just me…. or does anyone else have the problem of grabbing your Dash Express from the case and the battery is frequently dead? Usually, mine is plugged in while driving (and charging…presumably.) I guess I am not powering it down correctly- somehow. I see the red light flash a few times, then go out– but sometimes the next day the battery is completely dead.
